Welcome to our first RAC Communiqué issue for 2024. It also marks our fifth year of living with the COVID-19 which prompted reflecting on our thoughts and actions and what we could have done differently.

In this edition we examine the case of a resident who died due to being administered a medication to which he had a known allergy. The case highlights lessons about how we gather and evaluation information. Our expert commentator is Dr Natali Jokanovic, a practising pharmacist with a research background in medication management in residential and hospital settings.

We have a reminder about a series of national webinars addressing five areas for improving mental health for older people in residential aged care. The first is scheduled for Wed 6th March 2024, make sure you register at https://latrobe.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_86XZhETfQ2edwNotKBifog#/registration.

We finish on a sad note with a tribute to the late Maree Cameron, PSM, who was instrumental in establishing the RAC Communiqué.
